Get politician on the record (15 points) 15 Irish Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, who was the former Minister of State for the National Drugs Strategy, has come out in support of our campaign and harm reduction advocacy. He also tweeted out to his followers to encourage students in our college to support our referendum!
Policy changed or adopted (50 points) 50 Thanks to our campaign work and seeing a referendum being put forward to the students in our college, our Students' Union now officially adopts the policy where they support the decriminalization of the possession of drugs for personal consumption in Ireland for adults aged 18 years and over. The new policy also requires the to campaign in Ireland for this, and they must join the growing groups in Ireland which lobby the Irish government on this issue.
Pass a student government resolution endorsing policy reform (20 points) 20 On March 7th following 3 day of voting on our campus, students voted on our referendum. There was a total of 4,677 student votes cast on the referendum we put forward. 3,331 students voted YES to our referendum, 1,259 voted No, and 87 vote were deemed spoiled. As a result of our vote winning, it is now official policy of our Student Union in University College Cork to actively support and campaign for the decriminalization of the possession of drugs in Ireland for personal consumption for adults aged 18 years and over in Ireland.

Michelle and Damien decide the campaigns and welfare initiatives for university students in Ireland. The USI represents more than 374,000 students in over forty colleges across Ireland. We talked to them about the harm reduction policy they are getting Student Unions in different colleges in Ireland to implement, which will focus on drug harm reduction.

With each students we had a chat about valuable harm reductions tips that many had not heard of or ever considered. Our sheets varied in different ways (example, we had sheets on what is cocaine, what is mdma, what is lsd, what is speed, what is 2cp, etc). All information was taken from various sources such as DanceSafe, SSDP.org, Leafy. Accompanying each sheet was a sheet on harm reduction tips for people such as - know your source, avoid using alone, start with small doses, take time between hits, use one drug at a time, always carry condoms, don't share drug paraphernalia, etc.

We screened the 2012 Sundance Film Festival 'documentary of the year' The House I Live In, which gave a penetrating look inside America's criminal justice system, revealing the profound human rights implications of U.S. drug policy. It was a chance for students to see footage of the inhuman effects the failed war on drugs has had on people. Policy changed or adopted (50 points) 50 Earlier this year our SSDP chapter saw our motion passed in our colleges Student Council, which called for our Student Union to lobby our college to provide an affordable drug testing kit program to students and implement better harm reduction education (Link to news article regarding that motion passing: https://www.eveningecho.ie/corknews/UCC-Students-Union-vote-to-introduce-drug-checking-kits-cfa49e32-49d1-4286-8e25-710a4f38f6b1-ds). Earlier this week (Monday Nov. 19th), David, Adam and Ruby from our chapter met with 2 representatives of our Students Union to discuss what had been done since the motion passed and what needs to be done moving forward. The Harm Reduction education has proved successful, with every freshers park first year received this August (start of semester) containing harm reduction leaflets and cards we approve of. Our SU have adopted a more harm reduction based approach to any drug related issues. We are helping them in their campaign to see testing-kits be provided with students right now.
Policy changed or adopted (50 points) 50 The Irish government has recently announced that they will be implementing supervised injection facilities in Ireland, with the first center to be piloted in Dublin. The project will be supervised by our national health service (known as the 'HSE'). SSDP chapters in Ireland have long been involved in different lobbying movements to see this happen. UCC SSDP and CIT SSDP (chapters based in County Cork, ROI) will continue to lobby to see this expanded from state level to local level.

The theme of the night was drug policy as the event was to raise funds to support UCC SSDP and CIT SSDP in acquiring harm reduction materials for students to give out on our campuses as we continue our campaigns to see our colleges introduce a program for the student unions to be allowed distribute testing-kits and better harm reduction education for students. Apply for school funding (1 point for every $10 raised) 101 On September 24th our chapter sought funding from our College (University College Cork). On October 9th we received €1,011.00 in funding from the college for the year ahead. We emailed our European Global Fellow Orsi Feher with photo evidence of the funding on October 10th.

On October 2nd 2018 we held our EGM (extraordinary general meeting), an event we host every October in our college. At this event we outlined our plans for the year ahead, and sought feedback from students. At the EGM we held elections for members to join our committee. We elected 9 new members to our committee who all confirmed they support the mission of SSDP to see reform to Drug Policy. Furthermore our new members expressed passion in seeing our harm-reduction campaign for the year ahead come to fruition. We have now publicly committed to a rigorous year of promoting harm-reduction policies for the year ahead. Attend leadership or skills-building training (5 points per person per training) 5 On September 10th 2018 our chapter Chairperson David O'Brien attend a Financial training event organised by our college. The aim of this skill-building event was to help chapters/groups/societies in our college understand how to engage in financial matters in relation to our chapters/groups/societies, budget for the year, etc.
Table on campus (5 points) 5 On Saturday 8th September 2018 as part of our colleges 'Freshers Fest' (a day where incoming first year students can meet clubs/teams/societies/groups on campus) our chapter had a table out all day. 4 members of our chapter were at the table all day. We engaged with incoming students and talked about various drug policy related issues.
